Past Tenses: Preterite vs. Imperfect in Spanish

Some good information and some not so good.
The not so good: The preterite and the imperfect are not different tenses. They are both past tenses, but they are different aspects of the past. Calling the preterite the simple past tense is not helpful since the imperfect is also a simple verb form....
