Special Creation teaches us that the entire universe was created in its present state. More specifically, that all creatures alive today have remained more or less unchanged since their ancestors appeared on earth some 6,000 years ago. Evolution, on the the other hand, teaches us that the earth and all living things change slowly over time. While Special Creation is clearly more compatible with a plain face-value reading of Genesis, Evolution provides scientists a material framework to investigate questions in the life sciences. This tension between philosophy and utility creates an interesting dilemma for Bible-believing Christians: how do we teach our children biology without compromising their trust in God's Word?
