About Me:
"Never say never:-)"
"The only true motivation in life is LOVE"
"Crying help!"
"The cause of all anxiety, all depression, in the modern age is choice. The problem with choice is that it is a two-way - or rather, in the contemporary universe three-way, four-way, infinity-way thing. Every time you make a choice, you are haunted by the ever-present possibility, or rather probability, that you are making the wrong choice; and it is this anxiety that stifles any chance of modern man and woman EVER BEING HAPPY."
Why neurotics love a good laugh:
"Neurotics get a bad rap, but being on the neurotic end of the personality scale can have some surprising benefits - they are more likely than other personality types to get completely absorbed in a film. While this means they enjoy sad films far less ("neurotics usually have a highly reactive symphathetic nervous system, making them sensitive to any enviromental stimulation, say the researchers), they get to enjoy comedies and feel-good movies more than the rest of us" :-)
"When it comes to happiness, is it possible we are missing the point?
Pearsall, a Hawaii-based psychologist who died in 2007, thought we were. He argued that awe - feeling of wonderment is everywhere: in illness as well as health, death as well as life. Pearsall argues that psychology's standard list of emotions - love, fear, sadness, embarrassment, curiosity, pride, joy, despair, guilt and anger - omits arguably the most fulfilling one. Seeking joy involves struggling to control experience. Cultivating awe involves the willingness to feel everything good and bad.
An awe/full life is sometimes an awful life: it entails both agony and ectasy.
He is suggesting that there is a problem with what we mean by "happiness". Research support his argument that people who experience their lives as most meaningful are not those who are ceaselessly joyous. Depth of feeling matters more than whether those feelings are upbeat".
"The opposite of play is not work, it is depression".
"Optimism is not the best policy in the face of long-term stress...Idealizing a future can lead to a destructive behaviours in the present or stop us from taking a necessary action. Extreme pesimism, on the other hand, can lead to depression but some negative thinking is good for some of us. Defensive pessimists set low expectations and think through possible negative outcomes in concrete detail; it gets them working towards good outcomes, rather than just fretting".
