Born in Brindisi, Italy in 1953, Germinio Pio Politi moved to Canada in 1980. He studied in Taranto, Italy at the Institute Lisippo where he graduated in Artistic Oriented Studies.
Politi formally started his career in 1968. A painter as well as a sculptor, he was one of the pioneers of performances and artistic installations. Politi participated in many collective art exhibitions in Italy, in addition to artistic and cultural exchanges with France, Germany, Switzerland, and The Netherlands. Involved in various theatrical productions, the collaborated in theatrical collectives as well.
His research in colour stemmed from study and production of informal works along with experimentation on defining his technique with tempera, alcohol, ink and fire. Many of his works, for years reflected a complete loss of human representation, along with a focus on natures colour and space as influenced by Canadian landscape. The creation of imaginary landscapes of different types is a recurring topic in some of his paintings, however, the human figure, has now resurfaced in his works. Many of Politis paintings are an expression of moments of his physically troubled life.
Politis philosophy in life has always been to open oneself to different experiences, This extended to the experimentation of both body and soul through yoga, vegetarianism, oriental philosophies and various religions.
Particularly revealing was his artistic, as well as personal experience with the mentally and physically challenged, which confirmed to him that people with special needs hide unlimited expressive capabilities.
In summary, his works are powerful and unique in style, paralleling his character in true life.
