Manali -- 10th October -- Monday evening
Sun didn't come out so I played dams and rivers to keep warm and finally came home with some stuff still damp. Later than I thought when I got back and was starting to get dark. Gary cooked some soup and a curry. I then nipped out to update my apple store. Didn't have much to smoke as I was getting used to being stoned and finding it a bit boring. Just hung around and I went to bed much later than Gary but still couldn't sleep for a long time. Yesterday was lazy Sunday. Got up, had brekkers, cleaned house, went to town, came back, got more stoned, went and got wood, came back, had tea. Gary stayed with me all day for a change. We usually go our own way during the day which is good because I think we might be on each others nerves otherwise. Gary crashed really early so I wrote a letter to Anne, Mike, Alana and all in London, then played patience for a while. Decided to have a J and got too smashed to handle the cards so went to bed and slept after only ¼ hr. Got up a bit earlier this morning and after brekkers and a J staggered off at high speed up the valley at the back that I tried a few days ago., Went up much higher and through a lot of chestnut trees that were losing their leaves. Very crunchy underfoot and good autumny smells. Finally came to a valley curling off to the left behind the hill above our room. No time to go down and up so came back as no views because of the trees. Blew a good number on the way down and got into going really fast because the hill wasn't too steep. Got back really quick and pottered around until Gary got back (1/2 hr) and then he cooked tea of fried rice. He had a little trouble but finally OK. He then tried to cook pancakes but the first one kept sticking and after a while I took over. After 3 more failures just cooked all the batter up in a big gluey, ultra-sticky mess which wasn't too bad. Gary has now crashed but I'm not yet tired enough. Physically whacked from all the walking but my brain's a bit speedy. Nothing to do but sit or play patience. Too dark outside to go for a walk. Perhaps I'll have a J. Goo Nite.
