Born in Nova Scotia and now living in Alberta, George Canyon followed his dream of becoming a professional musician which was greatly enhanced in 2004 when he went on to represent Canada in USA Network's televised show, Nashville Star. After nearly sweeping the contest George released the album One Good Friend, which produced many hit singles, reached Gold status and won a Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. He also picked up three East Coast Music Awards and four Canadian Country Music Awards, including Male Artist of The Year and Single of the Year for "My Name". Canyon had finally settled in the home of Canadian Country Music and hasn't looked back.

Subsequent studio albums are: Somebody Wrote Love, (2006) which also garnered a Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. Classics (2007) which was a tribute to the musicians who inspired him while growing up. What I Do (2008) was the first project co-produced by George and Richard Marx. Collectively, the albums have won numerous accolades.

Better Be Home Soon is his latest and fastest selling album to date picking up a Gold Record within three weeks of its release in March 2011. This album was again co-produced by Richard Marx and so far yielding several top 5 singles is still currently being played at country radio. George's performance with Richard Marx on the 2011 Canadian Country Music Awards TV show, showcased the song, "When Love Is All You've Got," written by Marx and country icon Kenny Rogers especially for Canyon.

Throughout his career George has done all he can to help children diagnosed with type-1 diabetes, a condition he himself was diagnosed with at age 14. He is a spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and gives inspirational talks and special concerts at events and camps for children with diabetes. His message is to encourage them not to give up on their dreams and that they can still live full and happy lives.

George is also an inspiration himself. When diagnosed with diabetes he was told due to this disease he would never realize his dream of piloting an airplane for the military but in 2008 he was appointed the position of Honorary Colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force and flies his own light aircraft.

In addition to his work in the music industry, George has pursued a healthy acting career. He has played a regular role in episodes of CBC-TV's "Heartland" and had a chance to show off his sense of humour in the Canadian based, international hit comedy series, "Trailer Park Boys". On 25th, September, 2011 on GMC, he appears in "A Mile in His Shoes," with Dean Cain and newcomer Luke Schroder. It is a an uplifting story of Mickey Tussler, a 17 year-old farm boy from Bargersville, Indiana with Asperger's syndrome and a killer fastball, who is recruited by a minor league baseball manager. George plays Clarence, the boy's over protective father.
