I used to drive a truck, and I used to herd cattle, both of which call for long hours of sitting and riding straight ahead while you're moving toward a known
destination. All you really "do" is make some minor adjustments in steering, now and then. The rest of the time you look around and read the environment.

It's not unlike life, which provides unlimited source material for my stories.
