Canelo is tough, no doubt about it, but he doesn't look anything special to me. He looks too slow to me. I don't think he'd stand a chance against a clever boxer like Pacquiao or Mayweather. Canelo would be chasing shadows..
Cotto is a good fighter, probably a very good fighter, but not a great fighter. Pacquaio and Mayweather are, or at least were, both great boxers.
The difference between Manny and Mayweather though is that Mayweather's boring. I want to watch someone who's going to fight, not just avoid being hit.
I love watching Ortiz, win or lose. For the same reason I hate watching Khan, Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker. Give me someone who wants to fight, like Chavez or Hatton, or Gatti and Ward. That's entertainment, not hitting and running.
This is a dreadful fight. Two boxers cancelling each other out for 12 rounds. I don't think one good punch was landed by either man (I think the 'knockdown in the first round was loss of balance). I agree that Calzaghe was slapping, but Hopkins was far too negative. You get the impression that if...
Obviously this isn't to everyone's taste (and I don't want to spoil your fun) but it's pretty poor stuff, even for the late sixties. It's difficult to imagine why would anyone want to hear this again.
I've watched the other super-middleweights and Bute looks to be the best of them all. A good boxer, he stays calm under pressure, and he's got a punch. I reckon he could beat both Froch and Ward.
