Thanks for the memories. Was a photo mate with VP-17 from 1967-1970. Did the cruse book with Lt. Tolly. Wish that I had a motion picture camera back then. We really missed an opportunity to capture the day to day operations of P-2's and P-3's.

@egregg57 Essex class carriers did have angled decks, but without cats. Two examples that I served aboard were the USS Oriskany and the USS Hancock.

Had one of these same planes do the same thing aboard the Oriskany in 63. I was a photographer and we were shooting high speed motion picture footage from the forward portion of the port side catwalk. Starbord side main mount of the plane missed the two of us by about six feet. We did not even kn...

With McCain working with the democrats the navy will have to learn to fly with no wings. McCain should know better, he tried that and it failed.

Thanks. I liked the shot of the Photographers mate withthe KS-80 hand held camera. Brought back many memories using that camera, and others to record launches and recoveries.

@lapmarty So explaine to me how they have produced a van in Japan that runs on hydrogen produced from water. Not once but twice. Why not at least attempt to produce an energy that does not polute. Get your head out of the sand and think. Flight was considered impossible at one time as well.

My grandaughter brought a small fur ball home, it walked in, sat down on my foot and, well, I guess I was adopted. Named him Brutas. He runs across the room and launches himself from a couple of feet asway and lands on my leg. Ea Tu Brutea.

@enzeren and I guess you think that being killed in another way is okay. There were men who were wounded and took months or years to die. Being fried is much quicker.

Iwo was an All Hands event. The navy carried the troops in, and out, The Marines took the island, the Air Corps flew off the bases, The Army held and operated it, The Sea Bee's built the air fileds, the Coast Guard provided men and boats, and the American people provided all the material used.
