About Gay Christian Channel

Many gay Christian people throughout the world are isolated. They believe in Christ passionately, but, where they live, they can't find churches that share their faith. They are forced to choose between churches where the reality of the gospel is under attack or no church at all. This channel has be been created for them.

Brought up in a conservative Christian church, I was always taught that homosexuality was wrong, and I wrestled with the fact that I was gay for many years. I even went to Christian councilling over it. But, before long, i realised that God wasn't going to take these feelings away.

I lived a double life for a while, but was never able to enter into a long-term relationship, because of feelings of guilt and the fear of being found out. In the process, I found myself actually doing more harm to myself and others, by not committing myself to find a loving gay relationship.
I did eventually find such a relationship. We've been together for 7 years and we're very happy.

I began to re-examine what Jesus actually had to say about being gay. I soon realised that the foundation on which the Church says that Homosexuality is wrong is actually more shaky than I first thought.

The Old testament law is quoted, but the early church, at the Jerusalem council in the book of Acts, ruled that the Old Testament law with all its lifestyle prohibitions should not apply to christians. Paul in his letters explains why. The Old Testament law was designed to keep the nation of Israel from assimilating into the other nations. For example, it even prevented the people of Israel from eating the same food as gentiles, by very strict dietary rules such as not eating pork. It was designed to keep the nation of Israel distinct from other nations and therefore much less likely to assimilate. Paul said it was like a school teacher keeping an infant in check, by issuing strict rules for behaviour, but Pentecost and the giving of the Holy Spirit meant that a Christian's heart could be changed (as the prophet Jeremiah prophesied in Jer 31v31-34). We are infants no longer, and these strict rules no longer need apply.

So what rules do apply? Are we free to do anything we like. Of course not. The law we now follow is the "law of liberty," the "Royal Law," that James wrote about in his letter in the New testament- "Love your neighbour as yourself." Jesus expands on this on the sermon on the mount. He teaches forgiveness, loving your enemies and sacrificing your life for others.

The fact is that if Christians truly concentrated on this law of liberty- to love our neighbours as ourselves- we would go further in goodness and grace than ever the Israelites under the law did. Instead most Christians would rather feel self-righteous, that they don't drink or smoke and aren't gay. They are in danger of missing the mark. For God is love, and our love is the only evidence that we have God in our lives.
