You guys are so young! 1980s? This show debuted in 1966 on NBC in response to the Beatles craze. The show was basically a comedy, and they always had a big number at the end of the show, as if they were a real group. This song, and I'm A Believer, were both written by Neil Diamond I believe.

@torreytgs The one and only Harry Caray. He was the Cardinals broadcaster from the 1940s until 1969, after which Jack Buck took over. Jack was Harry's sidekick until then. I think they were the best broadcasting duo of all time.

Leo Sayer was a brave performer - and quite excellent. And braver still was 3 Dog Night, who took this weird little song and turned it into one of their many fantastic hits! I submit to you that not many bands could've made this song a success - but they pulled it off beautifully...
