Hello Gandelf, thanks for the nice comments. As to strumming technique, I was also a guitarist first, so was used to strumming. I often strum a uke with only my first finger, as you don't need much more. I think it helps to get a lighter touch.
There are lots of strumming help videos on Ukulele Underground, if I remember right. GOOD LUCK :)
