step 1: find a version of a holiday song you like and listen to it hundreds of times over the course of several years. try to learn each vocal part individually, and sing them at random in your car when the song comes on regardless of passengers.
step 2: continue your 'a cappella' obsession by going so far as to score the music by ear for you and 3 of your buddies, but never do anything more than sightread it during rehearsals.
step 3: buy a computer/software that will let you record yourself 4 times and edit the audio so you don't need 3 buddies to sing it with you.
step 4: be a loner and spend an entire friday night actually doing step 3.
step 4a: sporadically record yourself while recording so you can then make a video capturing your evening (and lack of social life)
step 5: walk away from it for an hour so when you listen to it again it's fresh and you gain perspective. during that hour try to start your first fire of the holiday season, but fail miserably.
step 6: post!
