I think he's saying that "religion" is like a "to do" list and is against Jesus and God because what Jesus did for us is already done. Church doesn't mean Religion. I think he's looking at Religion as a set of beliefs that exist for humanity to honor religion, and believing in Jesus as a paradigm...
