Hugo Kitano, 16, is a junior at Lowell High School in San Francisco. He currently studies with Professor Hans Boepple of Santa Clara University.

At age 13, Hugo performed at Carnegie Hall as a winner of both the solo and duo division of American Fine Arts Festival. He also gave his San Francisco solo recital debut at the Noontime Concerts Series and his orchestral debut with Palo Alto Philharmonic as winner of their concerto competition.

Hugo has won numerous competitions at local, state, and international level. He was the first prizewinner of The 11th International Russian Music Piano Competition, the Young Pianist's Beethoven Competition, the San Francisco Young Pianists' Competition, the California Association of Professional Music Teachers' Concerto Competition, the San Francisco Chopin Competition for Young Pianists, the Northern California Music Teachers' Association of Concerto Competition. Hugo is also a winner of the 2010 and 2011 U.S. Chopin Foundation Scholarship Competition. Other top prizes include the third prize at California International Young Artist Competition as the youngest semi-finalist, piano prize at the Young Artists Competition at Mondavi Center in U.C.Davis, the second prize at the Bradshaw & Buono International piano competition, Pacific Musical Society competition, the Marilyn Mindell Piano Concerto Competition, and fourth prize in the International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA, held in Tokyo. He placed as a semifinalist in the Manchester International Concerto Competition for Young Pianists in 2009, where Manchester music critic Robert Beale wrote in The International Piano Magazine, "Personally, I was taken with the finale of Beethoven's No.3 as played by 14-year-old Hugo Kitano, because of its positive and spirited quality—unusual for a player of his age and an excellent augury for the future."

Hugo's performances of note include the 2007 American Liszt Society National Festival, the 2008 Chopin Gala Concert, and PIANO FANTASIA, a Napa Valley benefit concert honoring Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mondavi. Hugo has performed in various venues in New York (Carnegie Hall), England, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Japan attending the Franz Liszt Summer Piano Academy and other piano festivals and competitions. In the spring of 2011, Hugo organized and performed three benefit concerts to aid the survivors of the earthquake in Japan and raised $10,000. He has received coaching and master classes with Christopher O'Riley, Leslie Howard, Murray McLachlan (Chetham's School of Music), Di Wu (Juilliard), Gustavo Romero (UNT), Adam Wibrowski (Paris Conservatory), Wojciech Kocyan, Douglas Buys (NEC) and Melvin Chen (Bard). Hugo enjoys basketball, movies, and good ethnic foods.

In October of 2011, Hugo performed on NPR's From The Top in Santa Fe, which will be broadcast in the week of December 26th, 2011
