About Me:
 
Flutist, Frieda Chan, has performed through out Asia, Europe and US as soloist, recitalist and orchestral musician. Currently residing in Spokane, Washington, Ms. Chan is a member of the Coeur D'Alene Symphony and Washington Idaho Symphony. During her tenure in New York City, she pursued her Doctorate of Musical Arts under the tutelage of Carol Wincenc and Jeffrey Khaner.


With the invitation from Maestro Chitaru, she made her professional debut at age 17 as guest principal flutist for the Kobe Philharmonic, Japan. In her vast orchestral experience, Ms. Chan has had the privilege to perform with the San Francisco Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas and with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Neeme Järvi and Itzhak Perlman.


She has been featured as soloist with the Coeur D'Alene Symphony, the Connoisseur Concerts Spokane, the Catania Music Festival, Italy; the Okayama Music Festival, Japan; Orchestra Filharmonic di Bacau, Orchestra Filharmonic di Ploesti and the Bucharest "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra, Romania and the Metropolitan Chamber Players.


Ms. Chan is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Metropolitan Chamber Players. In 2007, she was grant recipient from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. She is the recipient of the Nelson Hauenstein Memorial Scholarship, the Robert & Sylvia Zell Memorial Scholarship, and the J&V McIntosh Memorial Scholarship.


She received her Bachelor of Music with Timothy Day at San Francisco Conservatory where she was a prize winner for their concerto competition. Subsequently, she continued to obtain her Masters of Music at University of Michigan with Amy Porter.


Ms. Chan was former faculty at the Long Island Conservatory of Music SUNY, Lycée Français de New York, and the LISMA International Music Festival/Competition and the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. In her spare time, she teaches website design to under-privileged girls through a National Science Foundation Grant.
