I actually use 'Camtasia Studio 3'. I started using the free trial but eventually got the whole version.
They've now released 'Camtasia Studio 4' which you can download a 30 day trial of. Check out this website www.techsmith.com and you can download the trial from there.
I use default settings for the recorder. It adjusts the frame rate in accordance to how good your computer is. If you put it on a high frame rate with a rubbish computer, all you'd get is pure lag.
