Nice to hear Richard Hayes again. What was it about Brooklyn in those days that produced so many fine male singers? Besides Richard Hayes there was Vic Damone, Alan Dale, Julius LaRosa, Steve Lawrence, etc. They had a warmth
that was lacking in many of their peers.

Yes, that slap was for real. At the last minute the director John Farrow told Milland to hit her back-handed because it showed more contempt. Ray didn't know how to pull that type of punch. Years later she recalled having inner ear trouble for some time afterwards.

Thanks for giving us this delightful number. A few years ago a film critic described her film persona ---- courageous, tough. tender, playful, athletic --
then finally summed her up perfectly: "she was an all-around ace". That says it all.

Glad to see someone mention Alan Dale's recording of "Laugh, Clown, Laugh".
I wish someone would add it to his playlist. It was a memorable highlight of
all of his live performances.

The producer needed a recording star who was also a believable leading man.
The previous year, Dale had added R&R to his repertoire with surprising success
(ie "Rockin' the cha-cha"). As for age, he was barely 30 yrs old and thus younger
than most of the other performers (except for Little Ric...
