I am proud African American Conservative. Migrated to the US 11 years ago and is a newly minted US citizen (8 months). As a 13 year old kid in 1983, I saw American president Ronald Reagan in a parade when he visited my former home. Even at that young age, I recognized greatness. I stood there in awe as he passed by. I consider myself a Ronald Reagan/George W. Bush Conservative. I have been told by many of my African American friends that I am an anomaly, because I am conservative. To that I say, I may be a minority now, however, I believe that the winds of change are blowing. African Americans are about to put aside the myth that if you black you have to be a Democrat. Today, more African Americans consider themselves conservatives and I think the Republican party has seized upon this opportunity and is beginning to do a better job communicating that, not only does the party hold values that are similar to African American values, but also that the GOP tent is diverse and large enough for everyone.
