Spruce forests (at high altitude) create deceptive optical illusions of distance (for even the most experienced mountain pilots). It looks as though the pilot mis-judged the height of (and distance to) the up-sloping terrain--until it was too late.

@MrMalak2k6 If the airplane is what I think it is (e.g. Grumman AA-1 series) bounces could be fatal, as they could flip inverted if full power isn't immediately applied and go-around initiated.
