We also know how most highly-trained professionals of the NYPD actually act when shots are actually fired: aim gun in general direction of firing, move eyes to three-quarters closed position, keep pulling trigger until pistol is EMPTY, fumble around trying to depress magazine release, fumble around pulling a fresh magazine out of pouch, attempt to insert fresh magazine into pistol backward, realize why magazine won't go into pistol, turn magazine around and still struggle to insert it into pistol, insert magazine then fumble with slide release, finally give up on slide release and rack slide to release it (all done with trigger finger still on the trigger), all while hoping at least one of the 48 rounds you and two fellow officers just fired actually hit the shooter.
