What Is The "DANCER'S FOOT PROJECT"?

The Dancer's Foot Project is a conceptual idea being developed At PVAC. The basic idea is to think about expressive movement and how we communicate in ways that are different to the typical approach.

We work to Create unique and expressive art forms defined by the presentation of the Dancer's Feet and how they use Touch as a means of interactive and expressive communication with the human body and or other interactive prop elements. * PVAC Absolute Attachment Touch As An Artistic Communication

Essentially; instead of the dancers foot interacting with the dance floor as the primary"performance surface", a PVAC concept as themed to develop visuals where the dancers feet use the human body (in essence), as the primary "performance surface".

Thus using this interaction between the two we create unique ways of visually communicating ideas, defining characters and their emotions (or just defining raw emotion in itself), and illustrating different types of metaphoric concepts through Elements of Film, Photographic, Cast & Sculpture .

In doing this, we recognize the powerful nature of the act of Touch as being an extremely important, even critical part of life.

And as it can easily and often be taken out of context, feared,(or worse) ignored, touch can bring so much meaning into our lives.

About Me:

I've always felt dancer's feet were the most beautiful feet in existence.

I realize they aren't necessarily perfect in the aesthetic well pedicured sense of what beauty is commonly considered to be.

For me, I see something to love that goes beyond this, perhaps an inner beauty of sorts.

I see beauty in the inherent balance that exists with dancers feet.

I see this balance to be in the beauty of their form, and the beauty of their function.

I love the Form of the line of nicely ballet-arched feet, the visible result of the many years of hard work and dedication that happens to feet as they learn a discipline that can also visually present itself in a beautiful way.

The beauty of the Function is that dancer's feet are unique in being able to do things that most feet simply cannot do. I also love the physical imperfections that tend to go with dancer's feet. The Callousing, the slight bunion profile (actually, I think this specific feature tends to make a more dramatic toe point than a foot without), the over-developed muscular lines.

It's the lack of so-called aesthetic perfection that I think gives dancers feet its perfectly balanced character and beauty.

To me, this is the essence of what dancer's feet are.

Being a custom Pointe shoe maker & designer, a foot care physiologist (specializing in dancers foot care), and visual artist, I've worked with many professional dancers over the last 20 years, I know many dancers see beauty in dancers feet in the many similar ways as just described. Interestingly, I also found many dancers don't always feel anyone other than fellow dancers could appreciate and love their feet that way. (Personally, I would like this to be proven otherwise as I think many would and do love dancers feet).

In fact, I come across dancers that are kind-of self conscious about the appearance of their feet, in part, because of the very characteristics mentioned before, though, another reason for the self conscious predisposition is because of a lack of proper development of their feet into the ideal ballet-arched line, but that's not what I'm referring to in this context.

I've maintained that people other than dancers, love, and think dancers feet are beautiful. I've seen what I believe to be very convincing evidence of this to be the case, and so I decided several years ago to begin a dancer's foot project to bring together such people (both dancers and those that are not dancers) that love such uniquely gifted feet & what the artists that possess them can do.

Over time, this dancer's foot project has evolved (as visual arts projects often do), and today I've accumulated what I believe to be the definition of what this project is supposed to be.

Thanks for tolerating some of my story.
