This is crap. You don't "go 100mph straight down" when the engine fails on an airplane. You turn into a glider, and in most airplanes the glide speed is well under 100mph, and the speed you would go in at is 60mph or lower. If he's going to completely exaggerate that part, the rest is probably ex...

The lightning didn't knock those branches down. If lightning strikes that close to you, the sound won't be like thunder, it'll be like a sudden, huge explosion. In fact, that close you would almost certainly experience some hearing loss.

It's always a beautiful day
No matter how gray and dreary the weather is on the surface of the planet, somewhere up there is a blue sky.
@Swimdad505 Dan, I'm using a RAM mount. Specifically, I have the iPad cradle, two arms of different lengths and a dual-ball connector so I can use both arms together, and I have both a yoke mount for the 182 and a suction cup mount for the DA40. Maximum flexibility! I should do a blog post on my ...

@BonanzaDude Oh, and I almost forgot the other camera! All of the outside video in the middle was taken with my iPhone 3GS. That's why it's a bit shaky, it's not mounted on anything. @BonanzaDude Hey John, it's a Canon HV20. It's a great camera. Note that there's no rolling-shutter effect. Still a tape-based device, but I didn't like the hard drive or DVD ideas - I keep the tape as a second backup, and I also have essentially unlimited storage for filming at events like OSH w...

@dlopez8a Thanks! It was pretty cheap and easy, too - I just took the earbuds from an iPod, put them inside the earcups of my headset (I was using a Lightspeed 20-3G at the time), and plugged 'em into the mic port on the video camera. So, what you're hearing is exactly what I was hearing.

Oh, and one more thing... Were I the ATC supervisor at Phoenix, I'd have responded to your threat to declare minimum fuel with "Roger, expect vectors to the VOR 4R approach into Chandler." You not taking enough fuel on your flight is no reason to try to strong-arm your way into the established fl...

Ugh... Really? Turbines run out of fuel faster? I didn't realize that 45 minutes in a turbine was significantly shorter than 45 minutes in something else. And I don't feel that "threats" have any place in ATC interaction. Advisories, sure - But working with ATC should be a cooperative venture tow...
