1. the desert eagle is balls expensive compared to a .44 mag revolver
2. the desert eagle isn't particularly reliable, especially with a rimmed revolver cartridge like .44 mag. Not good if you have a raging hog charging you and your gun has a failure to feed.
3. it's gonna take longer to draw and aim than the more swift and handy .44 revolver like the smith and wesson 629

As far as a good .44 revolver, you can't go wrong with the Ruger Redhawk, Super Redhawk or the Smith and Wesson 29/629.
As far as a good .45 Colt revolver, Ruger makes a Redhawk in it, and they make Super Redhawks in .454 Cassull (basically the Magnum version of the .45 colt), which also shoots .45 colt.
