About the way Blood Meridian ended....First off, I think the Judge is more a metaphor than a man..this is quite clear when you read the book. So when the Judge embraces the Kid I think Mccarthy is is trying to make a symbolic point about the state of the Kid's soul. Although if we are to take the ending literally, we know that the Judge killed the kid because of Mccarthy mention of the comets falling through the sky as the Kid approached the jakes. Remember similar comets were spoken of in the beginning of the book when we are told about the birth of the Kid. Therefore it follows that they accompany his death.
