The M.O.L.D. project is a hot zone-themed wet lab and workshop that investigates the science, politics, and culture of food decomposition. The audience is invited to participate in various experiments and build their own amateur bioindicators (living species used to monitor the health of an environment or ecosystem) to assess food quality and safety. According to Finishing School, food molds have an anecdotal value in determining the quality of their hosts by demonstrating the presence of decay-fighting preservatives, additives, and genetic engineering. The goal of the installation is to engage participants in a critical experience and conversation about the quality and safety of the food we consume.

Finishing School was invited by LACMA to create a project for their Late Night Art event that responds to their Franz West exhibit. We naturally thought a puppet show would fit the bill. The puppet show scripts are paraphrased interviews that Franz has had over his career. The puppets were created at LACMA by the event audience and then coaxed into performing the scripts.

Taking its name from a military term describing the act of making radio contact with comrades on the battlefield, Finding Joy is a site-specific audio workshop. Project participants are provided with the raw materials to build small DIY radios, which they can then use to locate prerecorded transmissions exploring perceptions of joy.
This instructional film was created for Engagement Party at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles on December 4, 2008.
