Judy Garland, She's the best singer of all time, today's artists aren't even worthy to kiss her feet, and not only could she sing but she was also a great comedian, and a great dramatic actress. She was way more versatile and talented then the overrated popstars of today (Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers etc.)
Books:
I read a lot of biographies about movie stars. I also have read a book called The Best old Movies for Families; It has a lot of great movie suggestions. I also like classic novels like The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds.
