After graduating from West Point Mike served in the U.S. Army as an Armor officer. He served in roles including Platoon Leader and Duke University ROTC Professor.

He became a management consultant at McKinsey and Co where he learned strategy and executive communications. He was also Group Manager, Strategy and Analysis and Director of Specialty Collections at Capital One .

Most recently he was VP, Strategy and Business Development, and Customer Service for Scotts LawnService and VP, Strategy at Scotts Miracle-Gro.
