Of course modern civilization has created this tendency starting with the agricultural revolution, organized religion, the accumulation of wealth, creation of states, the industrial revolution and corporate globalization (to name a few of the stages). It all started with humankind thinking they can conquer nature and use its resources for whatever purpose. Domination over nature will kill us all (since we ARE nature...duh).
