@vmcla Yes, indeed, George recorded this as a solo. I remember it from the middle 1960s, I believe. It was my introduction to the perfections of George Jones's singing.

The Cowboy's Dying Dream - Cliff Carlisle & Fred Kirby
White country bluesman Cliff Carlisle was among the most prolific recording artists of the 1930s; a blue yodeler in the tradition of Jimmie Rodgers...
That's true, but it's as though he didn't exist. The Carlisle brothers worked together for some time. I would agree that Cliff is by far the more important of the two, but I see Bill
as an important part of the context.

Cluck Old Hen
Clawhammer version of Cluck Old Hen. Just figured this one out on the banjo recently.
I see comments from two and three years ago. Have you discovered that the thumb can play on the second and third strings also. It introduces a certain complexity and interest into the music.
-
big scioti
best friend just happens to be a clawhammer banjo player that lives 15 mins from me in mississippi! how lucky could you get!
@dannygutters: Either, as in this case, the banjo is built with that bridge position in mind (and the frets placed to be in tune) or you use a fretless banjo.

@Ineedanameplease Youngjoeclark. This appears to be a frame drum, very much like the traditional Irish bodhran, played traditionally in duet with the flute. Wooden hoop with goatskin head.
