I can understand/speak only a little bit of Cantonese Chinese (my mom is from Hong Kong), because we would only go there almost every summer during my childhood, and i would then pick it up. My mom rarely spoke to me in Cantonese, always in English-- i think this is rather unfortunate. I would have liked to know more Cantonese at this point in my life. I have been learning Mandarin for exactly one year, and i think that i actually know more Mandarin than i do my mother's native tongue. :D thanks for asking! :)
