I remember that Wincanton Boxing Day meeting, was broadcast on the beeb for a few years back in the day. I used to like watching it, as it was the only meeting Wincanton had televised then.

He was actually trained by Scottish-based John Wilson, though Chris Grant did ride a lot for Arthur Stephenson. In his younger days on the flat he was trained by Guy Harwood

Boreen Prince was also useful over hurdles, finishing runner up to Gaye Brief in the 1983 Champion Hurdle and 5th in the 1982 Supreme Novices Hurdle.

Special Cargo in his novice days here, finished 3rd having won 3 times that season. Then was plagued by a succession of training problems before coming back for that unforgettable Whitbread triumph in his final race.

Good track from the first album, typical of their early style. Maybe not quite an Irish Ramones but they also wrote short fast catchy tunes in a punky bubblegum sorta way.

Good to see another clip with Anaglogs Daughter. She was retired later this season after injuring herself in the PZ Mower Chase at Thurles.

@Leighschlager Yes, Alastor was also a good horse on the flat when trained by Guy Harwood.

@grincher2006 Yes, Ten Plus was slow to reach his peak over hurdles and ran several times during the 1984/85 season without winning. A sad loss to jump racing at a relatively young age.

Deep Idol went on to win the valuable Dennys Gold Medal Chase at Leopardstown's 1988 Boxing Day meeting, a race in which Carvill's Hill started odds-on and fell. Knockelly Castle, 5th here, was the subject of a big Irish gamble on the day.

This was also the year when the Irish drew a blank at Cheltenham - first time they had done so since (I think) 1947. Trapper John was one of only a couple of placed horses they had over the full three days.

This was also, of course, Little Owl's comeback race after winning the Gold Cup in March of that year. He only completed the course once from 4 starts that season and though he won twice in the 1982/83 season was never the same horse again.

He was a good horse on his day. Did well at Aintree, though a dificult ride. Francome won very cleverly on him at Ascot the season after this, timed his run to perfection.

Although this race wasn't one of his better days, Castle Warden was a good handicapper trained by John Edwards. Won a few times at Kempton and used to like Perth as well.
