@m333tt Just tried a few of my thumb picks and yes, they do appear to be angled to favour right handers. But get a file and you can file the pick part so that it curves the way you want. The hoop part is harder to deal with, but try different makes of pick because some of them seem less biase...

I made a stomp box which didn't work - I think the problem was it was too hollow, and caused feedback. I reckon the key might be to use a very solid piece of wood. There are some pretty decent looking ones on ebay though, so I might just shell out for a ready-made one.
