Scotto's acting in this scene really brings this aria to life. Ok, ok, Bjorling's amazing voice has something to do with it as well.

Zancanaro is hands downs my favorite Gerard. His voice is powerful, brilliant, and very much in line with the technique of the golden age...with singers like Corelli.

Now I know where Giorgio Zancanaro may have gotten his inspiration from. Glorious!

his legato is a lesson to all singers

It's easy to hear the possibility of a baritone voice here. I wish I could find a recording of him after his switch to baritone.

I am deeply touched by this Dichterliebe. He sings it with an uncommon warmth and introspection. His expression is sincere and heartfelt.

I generally don't like when opera singers sing lied because it's often with the same kind of histrionics required for opera. But Prey has proven himself an excellent lied singer by virtue of his sensitive interpretation and vocal restraint.

Holy Moley! His high notes are unreal in this recording. You will rarely hear as even a tone as his from top to bottom. Bravo Milnes! And so powerful!

Try listening to the Hermann Prey rendition and see for yourself if Hampson even comes close.

Cinging mozart is deceptively difficult, and Wunderlich does it with such ease and with the necessary restraint. To my ear, the only other tenor that can compete with Wunderlich in Mozart is John McCormack.

this is a great example of Bel Canto singing. Very flexible (downright elastic) voice, even tone, agile. I love it. His top notes are everything you could ask for in a leggiero tenor.

fabulous phrasing, pushing a little too hard in the lower/middle registers, needs to cover a little more on the top. I'd definitely pay to see this guy, though. Big, beautiful, muscular sound!

This live performance is so close to recording studio quality that I had to watch and listen closely just to confirm that it was actually live. Man! You just rarely find that in a live recording. And they spared no piece of the orchestration. Everything is there. Still not totally convinced ...
