It's not clear whether he's talking about pornography in the strict sense of the definition, or just generally about what the American porn industry mostly produces. Pornography has of course been around for a long time, historically.

Bret's character -- i.e., a very technically-oriented wrestler -- really stood out even at that time; it seemed totally natural that he would wrestle one-on-one, even though part of a team. Must have been something to see that match, with the way the crowds were in those days!

Well...yeah, see, that's just it. There's LOTS of great matches before 2001, dude. Although this one is pretty outstanding, no argument there.
