A lot of pop songs at the time threw in superfluous psychedelic inserts which had little to do with the rest of the tune(i.e. The Buckinghams' "Susan".) This outro fit perfectly.

Earlier, slowed-down version of the song heard on their debut LP. Surprisingly, its equally kick-ass.

During his interview, Dick Clark wondered if The Trashmen would be gigging at the Copa in ten years time. Actually, they were immortalized around ten years later, but it was in a scene from PINK FLAMINGOS that no one who saw the film could ever forget.

@jazzand A friend told me a few months ago that Ernie's son, Paul Thomas Anderson, confirmed that his dad did indeed pick the show's music.

I always thought this was a good song, but a bad match for their vocal range. This early take proves it. George Martin doctored up the final version quite a bit.

Good stuff. Vintage Imus. The Imus/Howard Stern poster brought back some memories.

Well-chosen post from "Stranger Than Paradise". This is EXACTLY what Cleveland looked and felt like in the winter of 83-84. Great documentation of the pre-rock hall E.9th St Pier.

For what its worth, Paul claimed that John actually said "cranberry sauce". Whatever,: when a friend of mine played it at 45RPM a number of years ago, I was sure I heard "I buried Paul". And that's been my take on it ever since.

I never understood why the band wasn't able to break out in Detroit(and a lot of other places as well).

I worked for a record store in the Cleveland area at this time. The staff and I loved this album, and gave it all the exposure we possibly could.

Top Notch quality clips! It looked like I was watching them back in the day.

A pristine version of this clip would be great to see. But in the meantime, I agree. An inferior version of this groundbreaking video is still better than nothing at all.

Just as an aside, the opening act for Television this night was Rocket From The Tombs. As many of you may know, RFTT spun off Pere Ubu, the Dead Boys and a pre-crash-and -burn Peter Laughner. It was pretty much a mutual admiration society between the two bands, as I recall.

My favorite track on a great album . Very much a product of its time(late 60's underground rock )but also innovative and influencial. Its use of synthesizers paved the way for countless musicians in the 40+ years since its release.

Cool to see something so historic from a fan's perspective in the seats.

Sure, it was part of their old Hamburg/Liverpool repertoire of cover songs. That doesn't mean it wasn't a tight, dynamic version of a strong pop song of that era.

A good funk/pop tune that should have carried them further. One of the reasons it didn't happen was when vocalist Phil Alexander started playing up his resemblence to David Bowie. They were NOT a glam rock band, and that fact confused many potential fans.

They try to make me go to the graveyard. I say YES YES YES.

My fave was the way Harry hissed "asshole" under his breath to one of his superiors in DH1.

@Zimnyification I'm not saying it was a bad song. I just found it interesting that a Lennon practice tape which probably would have never seen the light of day had he lived, was one of the best "new" songs of '95.
