Since you have one of these guys in your hot little hand - can you tell me why a pre ranch mini won't fit in it? does it have something to do with the rear sight and receiver shape under the sight? could the rail or the mini receiver be machined to allow it to fit?

by comparison a 115 grain 9mm JHP +P round (I use corbon ammo) doing 1300 FPS will plow through 6 or more sheets of drywall. .45 and 12 gauge 00 buck pellets do the same. this is why many police tac units are now running .223 rifles in favor of 9mm Sub machine guns.

the mini 14 is a good first centerfire carbine - however if you are totally new to shooting, investing in a good .22 rifle in addition to a mini is the way to go - very cheap to shoot, fun and is great at teaching the fundamentals of shooting. I recommend the ruger 10/22. a new one...

yep. it's a .22 cal 45-62 grain slug doing around 3200 feet per second at the muzzle. (as opposed to the .22 long rifle which is at 25 to 45 grain slug doing 1100 to 1400 feet per second at the muzzle)

since it is a spitzer point (pointy) bullet it does some nasty...
