To get that legendary tone, the brown sound, you need the following type of amp: EVH 5150 III amp and cabinet, Marshall 1959 SLP or 1987XL or a Peavy 6505. The Guitar of choice is an the EVH Frankenstien, Music Man Axis, Wolfgang Custom HP, Kramer or Chavel. Then add the EVH Phase 90, EVH Flanger from MXR, a delay pedal, the D Tuna and a hint of reverb.
