@1jackdk I know why! The crews just don't want to wye or turn the engine to face the right way; extra work kills... If its for industry, long or short, it don't matter, but transfers, we try to keep two back to back at all times.

@jim2029 Both SP motors are backwards in running configuration. Since you wanted to get technical, its 'long hood' forward and the entire train's movement is now a reverse movement or "backwards" in layman's terms.

@Thunderheadpros The cars not attached wouldn't roll far. Train wasn't moving that fast and there were probably a lot more on the rear. They went into emergency and that is an extra 20lbs of forced air brake, IIRC, from each car's on-board emergency tanks.

That boxcar has a hand brake on it still and those brake shoes are done! If you were to see those particular wheels, once stopped, they'd be bluer than hell and you'd feel that heat on you.

The best thing you can do is sell your manifold, the good gaskets and diaphragms. Some people could maybe used the ends of the bells or scrap the mounting feet off them. Recoup some money, save toward your next K5. Best help you can get.

Had to youtube and look up the BCR 4602. I work for BNSF on the Southwest Div., and a couple nights ago, I saw 4602, my first carbody up close in the roundhouse tie-up tracks, waiting to be tacked onto a EB originator in the yard. Beautiful motor up close.
