Elevators in Charlotte 2011
During the year, I have traveled to Charlotte twice to film elevator videos. The first trip was a two-day trip during a cool weekend in July and the other was a quick-planned 8 hour adventure in mid-November. The July trip mainly focused on filming improved and more relaxed videos of all of the elevators that were filmed on the first trip in 2009, which includes Carolina Place Mall, SouthPark Mall and surrounding areas (primarily Piedmont Row), and all of the buildings along the Overstreet Mall. However, time constraints has forced a few skips along the way, especially the SouthPark area. Despite that, a few new places were explored, including the extravagant Ritz-Carlton and the stunning Northlake Mall, which both provided an interesting twist into the fresh backlog of retakes. To top this wonderful two-day experience off, elevatorgeek88 drove up to Charlotte on the second day to also film a round of retakes and fresh videos, and him and I met up for a huge adventure around the contemporary matrix that characterizes Charlotte. Just weeks after all of the July videos were up, a sudden opportunity for a second trip was given in mid-November, which has left me bewildered for a moment thinking how I can manufacture yet another successful round of videos from the Queen City after already retaking most of its vertical transportation. The simple solution was to take the concept of "retake" out of the equation, limiting retakes to "July's skips only" and finding new places to rack up a new backlog loaded with first encounters. With all of the gaps left in July filled, the November trip also provided videos from previously unexplored areas, including the jaw-dropping Carolinas Medical Center and some peripheral downtown venues that are blocks away from the concrete jungle of the Overstreet Mall.
Elevators in Augusta 2011
As of the 2010 census, Augusta stands as Georgia's second-largest city despite being dramatically smaller than Atlanta, the state's largest city. Augusta itself is about the size of Columbia, and is located right at the Georgia-South Carolina state line. In fact, the city is virtually divided in half, with the South Carolina portion of the city is referred to as North Augusta, SC. However, most of Augusta's prominent features, such as its central business district and major hospitals, is located on the Georgia side. Augusta is nationally known as the host of the PGA Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Unlike Atlanta, Columbia, and Charlotte which (especially Charlotte) all seem to lose interest in their historic structures, Augusta seems to retain and embrace all of its history in its buildings. Yes, there are a few 1980s and 1990s buildings here and there, but most of the city's high-rises and buildings, most of which were built before 1980, simply retain its historic charm.
Myrtle Beach Elevators 2008 and 2010
Elevators from the famous Grand Strand in coastal South Carolina. This is at Myrtle Beach which has many high-rise hotels with Otis elevators. Myrtle Beach is also referred to as the Golf Capitol Of the World.
Greenville Elevators 2011
Situated in the foothills of South Carolina near the major thoroughfare Interstate 85, Greenville (a.k.a. G-Vegas) serves as the economic center of South Carolina's upstate. The city is the largest of three cities located in the upstate (the other two are Anderson, which is southwest of Greenville, and Spartanburg, which is northeast of Greenville). Well renowned for its industrial prominence, the city itself has done massive street-scaping and main street revitalization projects, which has proven success to the city. Although the city does have some historic charm into it, the city is loaded with contemporary style, especially near the Peace Center. Despite that, Greenville does not have the contemporary style at the level Charlotte has it. One interesting fact about Greenville is that the city, unlike any other city in the Southeast I have explored, is designed like a tourist attraction (even though it does not have much tourism) with maps and directories all around the core of the city.
