Μια από τις δημοφιλέστερες παιδικές σειρές στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '80 ήταν η «Μάγια, η μέλισσα». Το βιβλίο στο οποίο βασίστηκε η σειρά ήταν γερμανικό, αλλά η τηλεοπτική σειρά ήταν ιαπωνική, του 1975. Η παρέα της Μάγια αποτελούνταν από διάφορα άλλα ζωύφια (μέλισσες και μη) όπως ο χοντρούλης Willy, η σφήγκα, Flip, η ακρίδα, Kurt κ.λπ
