In the winter of 2001 Mike met a girl. Her name was Tonia. She was going to the Art Institute of Seattle. She was studying music production. He was a musician! Good times! She had a project coming up. It was to do a single recording for a band. Mike was still doing dual duties as guitar player and singer in a cover band as well as starting an original band called "Equal to Zero". He was able to get (E20 drummer) Morgan to play on the recording, and Mike took over everything else. They tracked a now infamous song called "Translucent Shell". They were all very stoked over the recording and Tonia and Mike saw potential for a solo venture Mike had been thinking about.Mike had a few songs he had put together over the past year, with the intent of recording solo, but in the summer of 02' he decided to get in and record some songs with Tonia's help instead. She was able to secure some studio time over three days and Mike was very excited to get to recording. Tonia had recently learned bass guitar, and asked her co-worker Todd, at the school, to help out on drums. They practiced a few times and went into record a two song demo called "Critical". It featured the songs "Mercy Lapse" and the title track "Critical". Thus the full band, now no longer solo project, "Feared Alive" was born!
The three musicians began rehearsing weekly at Hush Studios in Seattle, and even got to play on a semi regular basis. The played the fabulous Bull's Eye sports lounge in luxurious Parkland, WA alongside Sic Puppet, and Holloh. They got to do this roughly two months in a row, with a scattered gig here and there, and then the drummer informed them he was moving to L.A. to become a drummer for a friends band called the "Heartbeats". (He now plays in "Winter Green" hello Todd!) Todd was gone by that September and Mike and Tonia vowed to keep the band rolling. Mike started to record an album of songs called "The View from the Other Side" but could never get it moving. He dove into older songs and crafted "Light" with Tonia playing bass on only one song. And then by October 03' Tonia was out of the picture. Now, left alone with some scattered recordings, and painful memories Mike was doomed to a solo project with a side helping of depression.
Mike went into a dark, deep sad time. Alone. Lost. And then, one cold December night, he lit the candles in his duplex, picked up his acoustic 1 and grabbed the tape recorder, and boom! Seven songs in one hour! He was shocked. The best music he had ever written all over a heartbreak. Cliche' but very true. What was born that cold night was the much loved album, "Winter's Tale". It featured songs that chronicled Mike's every emotional downward spiral, and subsequent rise to the new and improved man he was becoming! Then a year later, he tracked another album by Feared Alive called "The Cataclysm of Man". It was a prog rock concept record about being born, living a short, rebellious, troubled life, and then dying, and finding out what that troubled existence had to bring to the afterlife. He never felt comfortable enough to release it. Then he put the Feared Alive name on hold. He thought it would be better to resurrect "Equal to Zero" only to find frustration over the next two years.
2007. The Equal to Zero album "Sacred Hearts and the Bats Wings" was now complete and he and his current girlfriend were falling apart at the seams. The record had only two strong songs and Mike was disillusioned. He felt Feared Alive was his true calling. The name and atmosphere that band brought was always one of joy and comfort. His girlfriend left, he found God. He called Pat. Pat was all for playing drums. August 2008. Feared Alive is reborn. Mike got a friend named Derek to play bass, and he did but life got in the way and Derek moved on. Mike and Pat kept going. They had Tim help for a bit on bass until a more permanent replacement for Derek was found. Enter Lee. The future is looking bright for this band, this once "solo project" Mike began almost a decade ago. With your prayers and support, they will be rocking clubs all around the area, and with the future the only thing ahead, they could not be happier.
