As Denis Diderot once said, "Man will never be free until the last King is strangled with the entrails of the last priest".
A little harsh, and not to be taken literally of course. I am, however, dedicated to building upon the growing awareness of the ignorance of monotheistic religion in favour of people discovering healthy means of psycho-spiritual growth.
Religion is nothing to do with God, it is "man making God in his own image" and responsible for untold evil in the world. Thankfully people are turning away from religion in favour of more experiential and personal philosophies of growth and enlightenment.
I have spent many years as a counselling psychologist, and have witnessed an alarmingly high percentage of clients who have developed strong to severe psychological/social and/or even physical conditions as a result of the religious lives that were thrust on them.
Through their own strength and wisdom, many chose to bravely leave their dogma-based lives behind them, often accompanied by scorn, ridicule and intimidation by their families and "church".
A passion of mine is to assist these people, and others wishing to break free of the ignorance and insanity of monotheistic dogma, in their pursuit of a genuine and self-chosen spiritual path.
I am not an athiest, though I respect that position and view it as infinitely more sane than believing in the sinister nonsense of the Abrahamic traditions. Nevertheless, I believe one of the best books available to assist people in seeing through the insanity of religion is: "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.
While Dawkins "throws the baby out with the bathwater" (he has no interest in, or awareness of his own link with a higher power), he does a beautiful job of shattering the myths of organised religion. Pat Condell (see many videos on YouTube) is also a rare (and hilarious) voice of wisdom in this context.
I also seek to increase awareness of other archaic and outdated belief systems, not least the monarchies that still exist, including the British monarchy. I am Australian and a strong advocate of this wonderful country moving from adolescence to adulthood by having an Australian head of state. It is an horrific legacy that out of 21 million Australians, not one is eligible to be head of state under the current system.
That anyone still feels it is acceptable to be "born into position" suggests the same level of ignorance that would permit believing in the virgin birth, Noah's life-raft (replete with two animals of each species including kangaroos and polar bears!),that Eve was made from Adam's rib, talking snakes, and a vengeful, spiteful and hateful son-of-a-bitch deity who would send Buddhist or Hindu children to hell (but he LOVES you!!!!).
