About this user
Elvarhøi was founded in the great winter of 2004/2005 by Ivar Mauritz-Hansen (Drums), Espen Kringlen (Guitar), Magnus André Wandås (Fiddle) and also featuring Ane Marie Anderson (Flute), Mari Elise Lerdal (Vocals), Gustav Jørgen Pedersen (Synth and vocals) and Are Solheim (Bass). They wanted to start a project inspired by scandinavian history, art, culture and traditions. Mixing traditional elements of various styles of heavy metal with different brands of old and modern folk music, Elvarhøi creates an original and well-varied sound ranging from slow and doomy Viking anthems through fun drinking songs and nature-worshipping symphonies to intense and energetic power-workouts.
During the latter months of 2005 and the following year, following the departure of Mari on vocals, the band formed a studio "Oppi Fjellet". Here they recorded their debut record "Fjellet Faller Aldri" (The mountain shall never fall) which was released in 101 copies which sold out within the first two months. A re-pressing was deemed too expensive, so none was undertaken, but a remix of the same material was released directly to the internet in late 2007 followed by a tour of Oslo, Nøtterøy and surrounding areas. The end of this tour saw the departure of Gustav on vocals and Ane on flutes as well as the arrival of Nora Krågebakk (Vocals).
Following this, the band formed a new studio, named "Uti Skauen", to record a demo, hoping with this to land a record deal. During this process there has been certain changes to the lineup with Nora and Espen leaving and Christopher Rakkestad (Guitars & vocals) & Ina Kierstine Olsen (Vocals & piano) joining.
