Elecam capture on August 18, 2014 -
Sissy and Winkie have had a very wet summer. They've been spotted quite a bit via our EleCams in Dr. Scott's pond and also in the pond located nearer their barn. Sis and Winks seem to prefer swimming in the rain. On August 19th, TES staff saw the rains start and we focused the EleCams on the Asia barn pond. There wasn't a long wait before Winkie went in, followed by Sissy. In the excitement of it all, Winkie even gets up on the bank and roots around a little bit with her trunk, making a quick snack of a pine sapling in the process. Elephants love the water, and Sissy and Winkie are no exception. The buoyancy effect of the water allows these huge animals to move about more freely, creating sort of an "aqua-aerobics" session.
Sept 12 is Winkie's arrival anniversary, and this is her 14th year at The Sanctuary. Keep up with Sissy, Winkie, and the 11 other Sanctuary elephants at www.elephants.com/elecam.
