In his short film "electric steps" AJ Halkes captures life on, under and around this massive people mover from before dawn to the early hours, on Valentines Day, February 14 2009; over 18 hours of shooting from 5.42.18 am to 00.31hrs using up to three cameras at a time and 30 hours of video.
Shot from both afar and up-close, electric steps is his intimate personal look into this very public machine and life around it until it's finally rendered silent and motionless for the night.
.. is the machine the star and everything else background or have the machine and the people now become so inextricably linked they are one ?
