"Ramped" the documentary Erik Smith and Nick Anketell present a film about the working life of a tow truck driver in Salem, Massachusetts. It's a fun drive around the North Shore of Boston with a lot of snowstorms, hijinx, buddies laughing, and rescues performed on a routine basis. Mostly it's the story of two friends, the filmmaker and the truck driver. Nick Anketell is a tall, swaggering, ruggedly handsome tow truck driver who grew up in Beverly, Massachusetts and drives a Freightliner for Price Towing, the company his stepfather founded. He's been driving for seven years and has a great attitude about the hard job he does. Erik Smith is a documentary filmmaker from Marblehead, Massachusetts who is working on a film about the sport of antique hand engine firemen's musters. It's an unconventional documentary but one made with passion that attempts to show the daily life of a smart dude with a tough job.

I'm a history writer, documentary filmmaker, and boatyard worker from Salem, Massachusetts.

I worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation in Glendale and Burbank, California for a little over 5 years, mostly as a production assistant on "Fantasia 2000". For most of that time I was the p.a. to Paul and Gaetan Brizzi, from whom I learned more about filmmaking than I could have in 10 years of school! I was also a production assistant on the H.P. Lovecraft movie "Necronomicon" as well as a documentary on Bing Crosby that featured Dennis Miller as a host. I put in a year as a Hollywood Temp and was posted all over town. I was also an extra in the movie "Airheads", in the crowd of rowdies outside the radio station.

I am working on a documentary about the sport of hand engine mustering, a tradition that dates back to the mid 19th century. These events are competitions to see which crew can throw the longest stream of water with antique hand pumped fire engines, or hand tubs. For five seasons now I have been recording the action at musters, hosted by the New England States Veteran Firemen's League. I've met some awesome people; you can see them here in action.
