@Diakjarnested it is propably right all what you are saying but in old times kata was not for competition! It was meaned for life saving in life dangerous situations, i think it is better (and maybe easyer) to practise bearing this in mind!

GoJu Ryu is really complicated karate style for student to learn, without teacher it is absolutely impossible! Shotokan is little bit easier, it is possible to learn it in home alone to some level!
