About this user

Hi, I am a line dance instructor and occasional choreographer (both with the help of my lovely wife). I first got hooked on line dance in the early 1990s, but I eventually quit dancing around 2000 or 2001 due to health problems and boredom. (The local family-oriented Country Dance hall did not add many new dances.) By 2006 I had gotten to the point that I could barely walk due to Multiple Sclerosis, so I decided to attempt to return to line dancing for therapy. I started going to the dance hall again, and within a couple of months was even able to some guest instructing there. I soon also attended my first large event (1 day of MIL in Vegas, and all 5 days of the Vegas Dance Explosion). WOW line dancing had CHANGED!! I came home all jazzed up, and immediately started making plans to start up a local dance group. By Feb. 2007 I was teaching a small group some beginner dances. I soon also connected with some other local intermediate dancers. Even though I still have to sit down often and my balance/coordination is not very good; I currently teach two classes weekly through the local Community Education. I also dance whenever and wherever I can. I really feel that dancing (especially line) is the BEST therapy for most any ailment! When I do have a relapse, it really motivates me to get back up and dance!! For example, In January of 2008 I had a relapse that left my left leg mostly paralyzed. For a couple of months I had to call instructions from a chair. With the help of my wife and some of the other more experience dancers, I was able to continue teaching. By April that year I was even able to attend (and dance during) a three-day event (LAPD Classic)!! In conclusion: Line dancing has made me a happier and healthier individual, and is even helping with my memory and social skills. I really thought I should share my story in the hope that it will help to motivate and encourage others to get up and dance! I also hope to meet many of you line dancers at an event soon!
