Welcome to Sensei Eihachi Ota's page.Sensei Eihachi Ota is one of the true pioneers of Okinawan Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu Karate in the United States.
Born on Yaeyama Island, one of the most southerly islands in the Okinawan chain. His father a farmer, carpenter and headman of this small island.
At age 13 Sensei Ota moved to Naha city in Okinawa and started Karate in high school & joined the high school Karate club. Sensei Ota then became in contact with Shima Sensei, Matsubayashi Shorin ryu dojo.
Shima Sensei was one of Sensei Nagamines top students. Sensei Nagamine did not permit kumite at the main dojo and Sensei Shima, Sensei Kishaba & Sensei Taba started practicing at the Shima Dojo in order to practice kumite.
Sensei Ota moved to US in 1973 and has been teaching Karate in Los Angeles for over 40 years. His dojo currently is in Gardena California, Shorin Ryu, Karate Kobudo Association.
